About Us

The Bulls are a registered charity in England and Wales (1057350) and we provide wheelchair basketball training and competitive opportunities to disabled and non-disabled people across Greater Manchester.

Shooting hoops since 1982, our team has a proud history of bringing new people into the sport and setting them off on their journey to the top of the sport, with past players going on to represent GB in international tournaments.

We rely on our players paying monthly membership fees to cover our base costs, with additional funding every 3 years coming from generous sponsorship for new kit, however we are only just coming to the end of Season 2 of the deal agreed pre-Covid due to a delay in competing after the pandemic.

There are two key areas that we are seeking support for; returning to the National League, and the cost of new basketball wheelchairs. We've explained below in more detail why we need financial support in these areas, and if you are in a position to help, we have set up a number of donation options above for either monthly recurring donations or a one-off donation.

We greatly appreciate any support that you are willing and able to offer. Thank you.

Returning to the National League

6 years ago, The Bulls withdrew from the British Wheelchair Basketball National League due to rising costs making it unaffordable.

Since then, we have been playing in the UKWB Development League, which we will continue to do for our developmental players, but our desire is to get back into the National League to help our more experienced players progress.

To be able to play in the National League, we will need to cover the costs of hosting home games, paying for referees and table officials, and other costs associated with playing in the league, that comes to roughly £2,500 per year.

This does not include the expense of travelling to away games such as to East Lothian, Birmingham, Carlisle, Newcastle, etc. which our players would typically cover the cost of.

The Cost of Wheelchairs

Basketball wheelchairs are made to measure to an individual's size, needs, and disabilities, and a new basketball chair can cost over £5,000. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to get new chairs in more than a decade.

Our players are competing with outdated equipment, and in some cases in chairs that were made for other people, putting them at a huge disadvantage. Your donations help level the playing field and help us compete with other teams.

Realistically we would need to spend in the region of £40,000 on new basketball wheelchairs to give our players the best possibility to compete and succeed.
